Comments:Regarding the recent comments about the website and this Guestbook in particular. I am familar with the Misawa site -- both the public and the private one. I have no intention of limiting access to the PAS site. The problem is not that the site is visible and able to be view by all -- the problem is the SPAM that is hitting the Guestbook. This is a massive Internet problem -- much like e-mail spam. I too am tired of it and can assure everyone that I am looking a ways to eliminating it. In the mean time, I manually edit the Guestbook (numerous times per day) to eliminate this trash. Until further notice, or until a more reliable Guestbook solution is found, I am as of today suspending the Guestbook function. Older, archived version will still be available to view but new entries will not be allowed. I'll welcome all ideas and suggestions. If you want to start your own Guestbook service or even you own PAS website, be my guest. I personally don't have enough time in my day right now to attend to the daily upkeep of this open site. Limiting or restricting users would only add to my workload and defeat the intended purpose of my 6937th / PAS site.

Comments:It's a shame anyone and their cousins can view our site and enter comments and/or advertisements. I also belong to the Misawa, Japan USAFSS alumni web-site, and there are over 2,000 members. It is thru My Family.com, and you have to sign up through our web-site honcho. You are assigned the proper info on how to get into the web site, and no one else has your info but the honcho. I will ask her if we can get information on how to do this IF you guys are interested in keeping our site personal and confidential. How about some feed back ?

Comments:Hi guys, Just wanted to let you know I was able to get back in touch with Ed Sartains daughter Elly whom I last saw in 1976. She and I were in school at PAS togehter and lost touch after 76 but the website put us back together. We caught up at Moms house over Thanksgiving and it turns out Elly is literally a couple of miles from Mom in San Antonio! Now, I get an email from Smoky Eubanks ( no relation but I'm sure he had fun at PAS with that last name!) who has put me in touch with Ronald Bolander whom I also went to school with. It is amazing that you are bringing not ony one another together but the kids of people who were stationed there. I am trying to get the "kids" to come to SA for the next reunion. I think so many of us are interested in hearing about our fathers, especially those fathers that are no longer with us and just what it was like to be in that part of the world, doing the incredible things you all were doing. I know I am thrilled to be in touch with you guys

Comments:That was a great adventure living in an area with so much history. That was also an opportunity to get to know some great people. Unfortunately, time has lost track of most of them, but the memories are still good (probably better than reality!). I had some good pals from tech school days (Skip Noll and Tom Scott). Skip finally located me, but we are still looking for Tom Scott (first shifter). Maybe some day we'll be able to buy him a beer.

Comments:Arrived at 6937th Comm Flight on Veterans' Day of 1959. The Pak Air Force put on a good aerobatic show for us that day. Not a dittie-bopper, I worked in a trailer on the east side of the operations building. I especially enjoyed the graveyard shift in winter, when high frequency radio wave propagation was GOOD. About Peshawar, I didn't appreciate it as much as I would now. I remember the vultures circling over the Parsee part of town. I would now like to go back to see the Parsee towers. After only six months, I shipped out to Rhein-Main. I was one lucky dude back then.

So much so, that the facility mailroom had no established schedule for mail call; instead, a flagpole was located outside the mailroom door. When mail was in and ready for pickup, the flag was hoisted, regardless of the time of day. The family anxiously awaited the arrival of our tree in the days before Christmas. We had almost given up hope of receiving it on time, when on Christmas Eve, word went throughout the housing area, as we had no telephones, that the “mail flag is up.” At 9:30 p.m., we accepted a battered cardboard box from the mailroom containing an artificial tree. As the family gathered around the tree decorating it – in this far-off land – it would be a Christmas Eve we would not soon forget. For the true Christmas Spirit is not found in the t

Comments:Hope you all enjoy the following PAS story. =========================================== A Christmas Eve past with an artificial tree By Joe Soboul Many would argue that the true Christmas Spirit is with a “real” Christmas tree rather than an artificial one. While our family prefers the former, our most memorable Christmas Eve involved the latter. Having observed previous Christmas Eve’s overseas alone, 1962 would be the first spent with my wife and five sons. We were stationed, along with 99 other families, at a small Air Force communications facility 17 miles from the Khyber Pass at Peshawar, Pakistan, where there is a dearth of flora let alone Christmas trees. My family, having arrived in October at the height of the Cuban missile crisis, searched far and wide for a real tree, before turning to a popular mail order house in the United States. Mail service to this area, since it is on the opposite side of the earth from the U.S., was, needless t

Comments:My dad worked as a contractor for an American company in Tarbela Dam, from 1968 to 1976. My dad used to socialize with the Americans from PAS when they visited the Hill Club in Tarbela. One officer used ot bring me a 6 pack of "Rootie" root beer and a box of Tampa Nuggets for my Dad. We used to hunt ducks along the Indus River, not faor from the old bridge over the river along the Grand Trunk Road (GTK). My dad hired a lot of ex-PAS Pakistani employees ("Cowboy", a local Paki electrician) and a few others who had distinct American accents and good manners who grew up around the Americans there. They would have killed for my father---they were all loyal Pathans. I used to ride my trial bike all over the place, and not once did I feel threatened. I even rode through the Khyber Pass at age 14 with another English guy who was 16, unarmed, and unafraid. When we got to the Pakistani Army fort half way thru the Khyber, they made stopped us, we had tea with the Fort Commander, and he ca

I arrived at Peshawar Airport in January 1965 and first thing I saw were two shiny RB-57F's parked wingtip-to-wingtip. The experience got more interesting with every passing day. The spicy food was great! I lived at the Shaheen Jala until the Indo-Pakistani war around Labor Day. I had just returned from R&R in New Delhi! Used to fly at the airport at the Peshawar Flying Club. Comments:Very lucky to have found this site. Had 15 wonderfull months in Peshawar thanks to a Pakistani gentleman named Quazi Russiandean. He was an air conditioning repairman on base. He introduced me to hunting and fishing in Pakistan. Fished the Indus and Kyber rivers, Hiski reservoir, hunted turtle doves, quarry bustards, and pelicans. Shot hyenas at the base dump in the middle of the night under the light of the full moon. Found the Pakistani people to be very warm and friendly when treated with the respect they deserved. Had a great time - wish I could do it all over again.

Comments:Arrived in Peshawar July 1964 and spent the next 15 months either at OPS, the NCO club or at Peshawar Country Club. Don't remember what flight I was on but I remember both the heat and the smells of Pakistan. I spent the first part of my 4 year hitch at Goodfellow, Ft Meade and Darmstadt Germany but Pakistan was the more interesting by far. I would have considered staying in for 20 except that the chances of my going back to Pakistan were stated as "Slim". I didn't like those odds.

Comments:Hello, and I would like to wish a Special THANK YOU to all of our service men currently doing such a wonderful job for this nation and the world. Also a wish for a safe VETERANS DAY to all current and former members of the greatest peace keeping force the world has ever known. I was stationed as the PAS in 62 and 63 and have many fond memories of the place I cursed and hated so much at times while I was actually there. The time passed by and a young man grew up in a far distant and strange land. I ALWAYS look back at my time there and remember only the fun things and the many many great guys I served with. I worked in personnel while during my times there and rotated back to the good old USA to Goodfellow and left the service in 1966 and have had a wonderful life up to this point. Four great sons and super wife and now I am enjoying retirement and 6 fun fun grand kids. Not to bad for a veteran of the PAS....... I really love this sight and check it often to see if there is any new name

Comments:I was assigned to P.A.S.from July 1964 to October 1965, but I ended up having to stay an extra couple of weeks due to the Indo-Pkistani War. The Indian Air Force bombed the runway at Peshawar and it was out of commission several weeks for repair. Our Barracks had a big insignia of Charlie Brown pulling a wagon full of Beer cans.Other Charlie Flighters were Bob Haines, Evan Bassett, Gale G.Ruse, Wayne Strom, Ray Parker and others. Some Bandits in my schools at Keesler,USAFSS HDQ, and the Advanced Telemetry Analysis School at National Security Agency(Ft. Meade) were Gary Ratzlaff, Bill Hutlbut, and Barry Sadler. Comments:Good morning! Wish I'd visited the web site sooner and seen the reunion! Next time. I've got 19 photos of Biloxi and Keesler, post Hurricane Katrina. The destruction is incredible and if you'll email me, I'll send these photos to any who are interested. The buildings, or what remains, are all new since any of us went through Keesler but the destruction on Keesler is as unbelievable as depicted in these 19 photos.

Comments:The Dayton reunion is history. Drove down from Michigan on Saturday morning with Sal Razzaq. Wish we had another day -- just not enough time to visit with everyone. Small turnout but I think all had a good time. Looking forward to next year's reunion -- should be bigger and better. I would encourage all to visit the website and consider joining the Peshawar Air Station Alumni Association. Best wishes to all.

Comments:Did we ever have a great time at the reunion in Dayton last week! I get to Dayton several times a year, so I get to the museum almost that often, too. But it was great to tour it one more time with my Bandit buddy, Wayne Matthews. We spend close to 3.5 hours roaming the halls. Bob Haines and I went back again and visited the Presidental Air Force One exhibit on the base. It was my first visit to this exhibit. Many of the planes (XB-70) that I missed seeing at the main museum were there. There are four or five old Air Force One aircraft. The changes in technology are remarkable. The head count at the banquet was only about 22. Several people could not stay for the banquet. It was a fun time.

I 'm sure the ground work plans will soon be forth coming. Start saving now so that costs will not be an issue for the next reunion. These reunions spond old memories, reunite old freinds and give you a chance to meet new friends. It was a real treat being able to visit the Air Force Museum this year--what a place! Please try to come and bring at least one extra person that you may know or be able to locate.

Comments:Hi folks. I signed this guestbook a couple of years ago but don't know where that went, I was a "BANDIT" worked in the analysis van for a couple of civilians by the name of Donnely And Poggi, Anybody know where they are, I was assigned to Ops Daze For most of my tour but then was assigned to Charlie for awhile Towards the end, I vividly recall the pakistani-India war and also the earthquake, I was at the Airmans club the night of the earthquake and I thought It Odd severl of the guys sitting at the bar never even realized it happened, On second thought i guess it wasn't odd since everybody was in a cloud anyway. I would Appreciate hearing from anyone I got to know during My tour,

I especially enjoyed to hours spent browsing the Wright Patterson AFB AF Historical museum. Everything was wonderful -- EXCEPT, we needed more folks to attend!!! Only those who served in such a unique assignment can comprehend the emotion of a get-together such as this. Had taken a lot riding from the unit to town and town to Warsak - lots of camels, nomads and the ever present pile of dung. Lots of the Khyber pass too. Thanks for Sally's phone I called her and we spoke for about half an hour. She is a lovely gracious woman. We had fun reminiscing! She is putting me in touch with Wally and Mary and family. Comments:Signed the old book a few years ago. I was in the Army Security Agency(the weather station.yeah right!!). We shared a building with the medics across from the NCO club. I split my tour between Peshawar and Lahore. Lahore was heaven compared to Peshawar.Spent too much time in the Airmens club and later the NCO club. The medics were the only group that drank more than us.This was my second overseas tour.First tour was Korea where there were plenty of women,Pakistan was the land of none. A cruel trick to play on a 20 year old.

Comments:I was 19 when I arrived at PAS and wondered where in the hell is Pakistan? Seems like a million or two years ago but really have memories of meeting some great guys and working for some.My real hero was my best friend Sgt.Al Overton whom I just found a few months back [after 45 years] living in Fountain,CO. I was a 70250 assigned to SMSgt. George Gable also Capt.Robert Callahan,I remember Maj.Peterman and Capt. Pullemum more or less, it was less the more I was around them. Had many friends in the city and visited the many wonderful attractions Peshawar had to offer,to many to list at this time. I feel we who served there did a service for our country that few people whould understand in this life time. Those who came later enjoyed the fruits of our labor,as those who came before us passed on to us. All in all,I am happy I was there but no way in hell would I wish it on anyone. We must remember those who are serving there and next door in our prayers and thank them. May God be with them

Comments:I've signed the old guest book so might as will do this one. I kind of enjoyed my tour in Peshawar; great mission. As long as a person stayed busy it was "good". I kept busy playing softball and flag football and coached Trk 1 basketball. Of course there was ops to keep one busy, NCO and airman club and the slot machines after mids. Of course Don Barnett had to initiate me to Rawlpindi and the "nite life". Lucky to get out of there alive. Guess everyone has their stories about Mangla Dam. Guess that place gave us our sanity back. My memory chip has lost a lot of kilobit power, but some things just cannot be forgotten. I've had emails from Willy Hopp, Jim Mcguirt, Russ Butcher, Wayne Fairbrother, Vic McDonald, and probably a few others as the result of this site. Always great to hear from "OLD" friends. Great site and always check for new members. Glad to hear from any acquaintences. Have a Great life. "G"

Comments:Just found this site today. My memories of Peshawar are endless high/low split card games, trips to the Khyber Pass & "thief city", trips to Rawalpindi & Lahore, and visiting families at Mangla Dam. Also the "ladies of the evening" in Rawalpindi, but that's another story. Also the color "brown" comes to mind as everything was dust, dirt, or a serious layer of cow dung on the roads. Will try to get to the 2005 reunion. Would like to hear from anyone I served with as my memory was never good. Met some outstanding people while stationed there..who helped me through the 15 months. I need to write down some of the stories to refresh my memory..there were lots of them, vendors at the gates, Col Eubanks always wanted them chased away; the guns stacked up in the main gate from all the local populace who worked on the station; happy hour at the club..drinks .10 cents!; riding a bicycle all over the station; the movie theater..saw every movie.

Comments:Amazing! It's good to see other people have fond memories of serving at PAS. I enjoyed myself immensely while in Pakistan. I remember the times I spent off base more vividly than the time on. I still recall how stunned I was to see how the Pakistanis lived. I became friends with a Tonga driver who made it his mission in life to teach me to speak Urdu. I saw things in his company, particularly in the old city, that seem as fresh today as when they happened. I volunteered for Pakistan while at Keesler, then was sent from there to Fort Meade for extended training and then onto PAS. My first day in ops I was sent to fetch a QRN Eradicator. I still can’t believe I fell for that one. Naďve small town hick. Good times. Good memories. Thanks for the site.

Comments:I got all excited when I found this website, and the pictures brought back lots of memories. My family was stationed in Peshawar 1968-1969. My dad, Ed Sartain, was with the AFRTS. In the picture on the website, he is standing in the middle behind the AFRTS sign. Sadly, he passed away in Mar 2003. I was only in 3rd & 4th grades in Peshawar, but I remember alot of it. We lived off base for a few months then moved on base. We hung out at the pool with a guy we called "Bubbles". We often saw Nature Boy in the city, too. I have a picture of myself, my sister and 3 G.I. 's, I want to say their names were Wayne, Gary YoHo or somthing like that, and Dave, not not sure. I'm sending a copy of this picture to be posted on this site. Maybe someone can tell me who the three men in the back are..

Comments:456 days in hell I think is what the by-word was. How I remember the nights at the Airmen's club singing "We Gotta Get Outa This Place" over and over. I was a Chink but hung out with the Ruskies. Lost track of names though, except for: Don G. Williams (who bragged me into an E4 promotion) and Bill Gradwell. Had some joyous times though with a missionary stationed in downtown Peshawar, Don Rowley and family. Would like to get my hands around the throat of a dentist there named Camamo who preferred to pull teeth rather than fix them, for which I have suffered all these years.

Comments:Gary, I am wondering if there will be any updates on the upcoming reunion ? It is going to be here before we know it. Will there be any kind of agenda published on the internet about the reunion ? HOw about a listing of all those who want to let people that they will be attending the reunion. Also any word on possible golf outing during our time in Dayton ? I once again want to let you know that I would be happy to help in any way. I'm sure others feel the same way. These are just a few of the questions I have but I'm sure there are others who can add to this list. Maybe you can post something on the website home page regarding this.

Comments:While I was at Peshawar, Robert Kennedy and Martin Luther King Jr. were assainated. I wondered what was going on back home. After leaving Peshawar and returning home, I remember feeling that it wasn't the same country that I left Back in July 1966. I returned just as the Democratic Covention was going on in Chicago. You all remember what happened there. You get basic training to enter the military, but you don't get any preperation returning to civilian life. One day I'm in Peshawar, four or five days later, I'm with my family back in Jersey City. Talk about emotional whiplash. I suppose many of you had the same experience. Any way, If anybody is still out ther, please write me. I don't have a computer set up at home at this time, I'm writing this from my office computer. my home address is: Kenneth McLean 62 Lincoln Ave. Cliffside Park, N.J. 07010 When we were young, if we only knew what to remember.

Comments:Have fond memories of playing "connect the dots" by looking at the ceiling tile in the operations center. Got in some trouble for helping to create identity on base for Aaron A. Aardvark. (The Air Police were really upset about our bogus I.D. badge into the compound. It was too good.) Loved the midnight flicks at the base theater. Saw some of the worst movies ever made. Played accordion for band "After Hours". Would like to hear from "Piglet", Jim Stadlemann, Lynn Glenewinkel and Charles Gray. Peshawar was a growth experience. Comments:Things that have come to mind: Flight to Karachi was in USAFSS commanders kc97(no fuel-plush ride) Arrived 6937th comm. flt & sick for 3 days after meals in Karachi. Grave by bowling alley that drunks were going to break into. Drunks throwing friends into water as they left bowling alley. (beer came in on occasion in ship containers)Class 6 store was a truck trailer Was a member of the Outlaws bowling team formed to take on all contenders. I still have patch sewn in town of Yosemite Sam with a 6 gun in one hand & a bowling ball in the other. The ball was more the shape of a cantelope. The later "bandit" patch may have some connection with our original "outlaws" patch. Went on mail runs to the airport & recall seeing a strange plane covered up.U2? Great fastpitch softball. I played 3rd base.Water tower in center field area. Should not have played pinocle with lifers for money.

Comments:I got curious about the group & found it on the net. It was interesting to see & here about the later years of the 6937th. We were working out of trailers for a while & some buildings were still under construction. I remember watching "Rio Bravo" at 5am on our movie screen attached to a utility pole. We had the four lane bowling alley that some of us operated when not working. I was there for 2 tours. Saved money, spent all on 1958 impala when I got back home. My last year was at K. I. Sawyer attached to the 62nd fighter squadron in air traffic control.

Lots of very clean vegetables after we washed them in a clorox solution. Will never forget the first night the Indians bombed the airfield. Told Lee that it was just a Pakistani wedding until a bomb blew us out of bed and I saw all of the tracers. Comments:It was a long time ago but it was good. I made some good friends, drank to much beer. Our house boy's name was "sher Khan" kept our clothes ironed. Had a bar in our room, the base commander came and checked it out and had a beer. I was a rockin'ditty bopper. Loved it. If anyone remembers me shoot me a line, my QSA is good and and I'll QSL, SK.

Comments:For such a small place their has been some real strong and lasting friendships. When I think of all the close calls I have had in that part of the world chasing whatever, God had an angle watching over this young and dumb cajun. I truly enjoyed myself. I think about the night we were awakend with the awfull news about President kennedy being shot and this young kid (me) feeling so far from home. That was the only bad thing I can think of though. PAS was s shithole of delux proportion, but I used it to the best of my ability. All the trips to mangla dam, Kabul Delli, Karachi, Lahore, Pendi, and various other places.

Comments:Great memories of this place called Peshawar. Great moments spent at the pool and around the old water tower. The visits to Mangla Dam and the various tours I took while there ... 'SOB' sitting on the side of the road smoking his pipe ... they were all some great times. To all of you that served there ... my best to you.
